Karen is a registered and accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. She holds a BSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Integrative Adolescent Psychotherapy as well as a Masters Degree in Public Relations and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English. She is currently undergoing further training in a Bachelor of Science Degree in Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy with Coventry University. Karen has numerous years’ experience working with many of the reasons people attend therapy including: anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship issues, anger, abuse, grief and loss. Karen also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and has over 10 years’ experience teaching and facilitating.
Karen has a special interest in early developmental trauma and how this manifests later in life and how it can be healed in therapy. She is also passionate about parenting, attachment issues and preventative work in families, as well as relationship issues that can stem from these early years.
Karen works from a Humanistic Integrative Approach. This means she values the unique experience of each client and treats each person as a whole person; body, feelings, mind & soul, with autonomy to make their own choices. Her approach is grounded in Person-Centred, Existential and Gestalt Counselling Theory while also integrating CBT, IFS, Somatic and Polyvagal therapies, Neurobiology, as well as using elements of Mindfulness Meditation, Art Therapy and Spirituality.
